Summary ~ Teachers ~ Curriculum ~ Daily Routines
The Infant Environment maintains a 1:4 teacher-to-child ratio, with eight children and two teachers. Within this ratio, Spokane Falls Montessori implements Primary Care Groups. This means that each teacher, or “primary care provider,” is responsible for the care of the same four children each day. This approach supports the development of strong, trusting relationships and provides the consistency and predictability that are so important to young children.
This structure also reflects the Montessori philosophy of respecting the infant as a capable and growing individual. By working in small, consistent groups, teachers are able to closely observe each child and follow their unique rhythms, interests, and developmental needs. Rather than directing the child, we thoughtfully respond to their cues, allowing each infant to move, explore, and develop at their own pace. This respectful, responsive care fosters independence, security, and a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
